Dialog with Dimitri Rybaltchenko

Freelance designer Dimitri Rybaltchenko lives and works in Paris. For over 30 years, he has collaborated with some of France's leading design houses. He has designed silk squares for Hermès, furniture and decoration for Fendi Casa, perfumes for Diptyque, and window displays for Hermès, Dior and Saint-Laurent.

What's most striking about his work is the escapism his creations evoke. Shapes and subjects float in a kind of immensity, soaring towards distant horizons, escaping into the unknown. Then, in a shadow, a detail, the reverie and emotion of hidden feelings are revealed.

"This is the first time I've drawn crystals. They arouse admiration. Like sculptures lifted from the Earth, they give an impression of both strength and delicacy. Crystals don't reveal themselves, they beg to be discovered. For this drawing, I focused on their brilliance, playing with contrasts while limiting the colors: yellow and blue, cold and warm. Then I drew inspiration from their organic weave to treat transparency by superimposing opaque wefts and working on their relief."
